I have already posted this in the progress section but thought it would be a good idea to add it to the fitness section also.
I have recently been reading a book recommended by a friend of mine, called Personal Development for Smart People. One of the suggestions when it comes to many things that we find difficult to do ie: diet, exercise, cutting down on alcohol etc is this, Instead of giving yourself a huge overwhelming goal, like "I am going to run the marathon this time next year", Is to commit yourself to something for thirty days. As an example, for the next 30 days commit to eating a healthy diet. Or for the next 30 days commit to doing 30 minutes of exercise each day. If after 30 days you want to go back to the way you were, fine go back to the way you were. More often than not after 30 days of exercising regularly or eating healthily, you will have made enough change and noticed enough benefits that you will not want to give up. The theory is that 30 days is a relatively small commitment, but enough to get you onto the right track. I'm going to give it a go, and hopefully will report back in one months time with good news. I'll start off keeping it simple. I take the dog for a brisk walk along the cliffs almost every day, for between 20-40 minutes. Starting today 1st February until 1st March I will walk the dog every day for a mimimum of 40 minutes, and will make it an hour when possible with time permitting. Come rain or shine! I will also do a minimum of 20 press ups and 50 situps every morning. |
