Xanax may intensify the effect of alcohol. Do not drink alcohol while taking this medication.
Never combine Xanax with itraconazole or ketoconazole. These drugs cause a buildup of Xanax in the body. If Xanax is taken with certain other drugs, the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. It is important to check with your doctor before combining Xanax with the following: * Amiodarone * Antihistamines * Carbamazepine * Certain antibiotics and erythromycin * Certain antidepressant drugs * Cimetidine * Cyclosporine * Digoxin * Diltiazem * Disulfiram * Ergotamine * Fluoxetine * Fluvoxamine * Grapefruit juice * Isoniazid * Major tranquilizers and chlorpromazine * Nefazodone * Nicardipine * Nifedipine * Oral contraceptives * Other central nervous system depressants * Paroxetine * Propoxyphene * Sertraline |

It goes without saying that Xanax is a potent drug which cannot be consumed with a number of tablets and even with alcohol. Xanax can make the alcohol experience more intense. So, it should be kept away from such patients. So also if one is taking drugs like oral contraceptives too, this is applicable. Grapefruit juice is another strict No-No. Other drugs which are prohibited along with Xanax include anti-depressants (some of them) and tablets for treating the central nervous system.
