Default Cholesterol Self Test Kits

My cholesterol is higher than I would like at 6.4 and part of my diet I intend to reduce this to a more acceptable level. The problem is how do I know if my diet is achieving this?

I know there are self test kits available but are they any good? Has anyone used these before or have any recommendations of which type, make, model work the best?

How do you know it is 6.4 in the first place, did you go to the Docs?

I had a yearly health check at work and then had the test done at the doctors. Recently I had kidney stones ( ouch ) and another blood test. At least it is not going up.

I don't really know too much about the self test ones, as in how accurate they are. I don't think they've had a bad press though. Just reducing the amount of saturated fat in your diet is only going to serve to help reduce your cholesterol levels.
