Default I will be an Acai Berry guinea pig for you.

Hello all. Today I started to cut down my food intake by 20%. My diet is varied and will remain so, my exercise level will remain the same. Nothing else will change - except I will take a pure Acai Berry supplement. There is a huge amount of hype around this - it is supposed to be a very natural appetite suppressant which gives you more energy, but we will see.

    I am 9 stone 4, my target weight is 8 stone 7lbs.

I will report back in a week and let you know what has happened. If it works for me, it will work for anyone, I am 47 and my middle fat will be hard to shift.

Have decided to update daily (although only weigh once a week - being a Saturday)

This means I can keep a diary of food intake and monitor energy levels et

    Day one

Taking two acai supplements - one at breakfast and one in the evening - with a glass of water.

Breakfast. One large slice of granary toast. Walked dogs.Cut hedge - not hungry all morning but a tennis match at 1 so I ate a banana and some cashew nuts. Played 3 sets of tennis. Then sat around for several hours chatting and refused a piece of millionaire shortbread with my tea. Had an apple. (!) Swept up hedge trimmings. Had some toast with poached salmon and cucumber.Walked dogs. Cooked us a late supper - prawn stir fry and lots of veggies in it and put abo0ut 20% less on my plate.Sat around watching BGT rubbish!!

Verdict - not hungry on the whole but this could at this stage be psychological. Had plenty of energy despite heat and this morning no muscle aches from tennis which is unusual for me.

    HI there.

    Day two.

Probably had about 20% less food. I still think the Acai does decrease your appetite a little but it is very hot - I don't know about you but not usually over hungry when it's very warm. Generally ate very healthily and certainly not craving any biscuits. No exercise other than two 40 mins dog walks - my work involves sitting down!

Will cut down from 2 Acai to one (in the evening) as it seems to cause a slightly upset stomach - this is apparently due to the ascorbic acid content as with vitamin C - however I am very tolerant of high doses of vitamin C and generally have a cast iron stomach! Will increase to two again in a few days.

I don't feel as heavy but cannot get on the scales until Sat. Even a 1lb drop I will consider good as I generally weigh exactly the same daily - if I weigh a.m.

    Hello again

Unfortunately day four and I have stopped the Acai. This is an organic freeze dried product but I have stomach cramps two hours after taking it. I have such a good digestive system normally and tolerant of a wide range of foods etc.. Acai companies claim it is a fruit and therefore has no side effects - of course being a fruit doesn't necessarily mean it's without side effects - deadly nightshade bears a fruit after all! No, seriously, it is probably fine for some, but I don't want the tummy cramps.

Interestingly I have got on the scales and I am 9 st 3 - only a lb less but a start. So will continue with the 20% less food and a probiotic - prebio is excellent, and will get rid of pesky cramps!

I may have been too swift to blame the Acai - my glands are up and I have a stinky sore throat - so maybe stomach cramps are all part of a virus!! Will continue with the 20% less method and the prebio ...... I will try the Acai again sometime.

I have to say it did make it easier to cut down - Acai definitely seems to be an appetite suppressant! But continuing without it for the time being!

OK so a bit of an odd week - I have a horrible virus/cold thing.

Conclusion : the Acai berry may or may not have given me stomach cramps. It DEFINITELY made me less hungry so it was easier to cut down.

Although the trial was interrupted I did weigh myself this mornng and I was 9 st 3. One lb less at the end of the week. When my cold has gone I might try it again..... If anyone tries it let me know how you get on.

Well 1 lb is better than nothing, all helps in keeping you focused!

Hope you get better soon anyway. I find when you start an healthy eating regime and change things around with exercise etc too, it can effect your immune system as your body isnt used to it.
Always seems to happen to me too.

    Keep it up though!
