I first went to Weight Watchers about 10 years ago. I sucessfully lost 28lbs. I like Weight Watchers because you can eat what you want - you just have to count the points. So if i chose to have a choc eclair, I could but it would use half my daily points allowance. I think being able to eat what you like is important, for me as soon as I think I can't eat something I become obsessed with it. Anyway I left Weight Watchers when I hit a plateau and got stuck and I didn't want to go each week and pay to not loose weight. I recently found my diary from that time and it told me that I had put all the weight back on plus an extra 1/2 stone in only a year. I hadn't remembered that it came back on that quick.
So........ back to Weight Watchers 10 years later and it has changed. The same basic format where they convert food values to points equivalent and give you a daily allowance dependent on starting weight, age etc. There is also now an emphasis on the motivation and psychology of overeating. The weekly meetings focus on positive self talk and using motivation techniques to help you keep on track. The New Discover Plan features filling foods so that you have no excuse to feel hungry on this diet. I've been back at Weight Watchers since May 2008 - I lost 28 lbs in 3 months and then stuck - again just like 10 years ago at the same weight!! So I've had a few months of staying the same, the good news being that I haven't put any weight on - so that's 4 months of static - for me that's great but I do have more weight to loose. I kick started myself three weeks ago I got back down to it and am hoping for a 2-3lb loss when I go to my meeting for weigh in tonight. That should give me 6-7lb loss since Christmas. I set myself small achievable goals. Next goal a party in 6 weeks - loose another 7lbs. I count my points and write everything down that I eat. It's amazing how many things I eat (usually small nibbly things) that I dont write down - it all adds up. Ultimately I like Weight Watchers because it is close to 'normal' eating whilst dieting, no restrictions, no strange mixtures of foods, no faddy exclusions, no shakes or meal replacements - so when you have reached your goal you can eat as usual. Hi, i`v also been following the weight watchers and really like it. I don`t feel hungry at all as you can fill up on the free foods! like no points soup and plenty of veg with dinner. have also been trying to exercise for 30 mins 3 times a week this week i have lost 3 pounds but am going to aim for 2 pounds a week as that is more realistic.
hope you get on well and will let you know how i`m doing lisa -D

Hi I also follow the weight watchers points system. Very easy to follow and if you add exercise in to your diet you can add more points into your daily allowance. 30 mins walking equals 2 points, which to me means a lovely glass of wine!

I have tried weight watchers in the past, but i get a bit sick of checking how many points are in everything.
And i feel like in the meetings the people running them talk to you as if you are thick!? Maybe just me, but its as if they tell you everything you already know but charge you for it at the same time. Gem |

I completely understand your comments about the Weight Watchers leaders:-
]('And i feel like in the meetings the people running them talk to you as if you are thick!? Maybe just me, but its as if they tell you everything you already know but charge you for it at the same time'.) I had one leader who obviously had her script for the week and just read it to us - it was dire. The other extreme is that my current leader is different and she seems to get the group going and we just exchange stories, advice and motivation some weeks there is barely time to discuss Weight Watchers 'theme of the week'. Personally it is less about the group meeting and more about the fixed weigh in. I have tried weighing with my husband at home but it just doesn't have the same motivation. If we have a bad week we 'forget' to weigh!!! So I do like going to weigh - expensive as it may seem it works for me.(( |

I am a seasoned weight watcher dieter. The plan does work, when you stick to it. I think it is probably easier when you are new to the diet as you are more motivated. I am an ex gold member and my weight has been up and down "like a fiddlers elbow" , since.(lol). I am restarting the plan tomorrow (fri 13th Feb) . I need to see the plan not as a diet but as a way to change my lifestyle. Good luck to fellow weight watchers. Summer
